Hey slices!
My name is Anna, I'm a vet student, hobby artist (gazellae on deviantart), wannabe polyhistor and cosmopolitan. I love music (from ManuChao to Nightwish), reading (right now TerryPratchett), anything that has animals in it, traveling and getting to know different cultures. I also like to try to convince my surroundings that acceptance is actually a good thing. (I live in Hungary, where being a neonazi is considered normal.)
Sadly my uni it's not really the most open minded, nor the most creative community, and since I spend most of my time there or in the dorms studying, I don't really have the opportunity to meet new people. So if you would be interested in conversations about nearly anything, feel free to write me, I'd be more that happy to get to know you Smile

Cheers for reading and have a nice day!

From time to time i try to draw to (http://bluetensarg.deviantart.com/ (i know im bad till yet and i could be better if i would train more)) but recently my attention goes more too music than drawing. It was a hard decision because i like both but i can only work for one thing beeing good at before i can try another thing.
But hmm what you tell is confirming my opinion that beeing good at something is just a matter of training not a matter of talentation .
Btw. i watch you from now on on deviantart Smile
but i haven't marked you as friend yet because i don't know if its ok for you .

I chose drawing Smile I used to play the violin, but unlike skethces it's not something I can do whenever I feel like it. And I can also express myself a lot better through drawings. Although, I do whistle all the time, so in a way music did stay with me Very Happy
And I do think that talent matters, but practice matters a lot more. It's just easyer if you are talented.

Btw I just realised that you are from Aachen, wich is funny becouse originally I'm from Köln Very Happy

oh cool Very Happy funny coincedences. Well actually im from Übach-Palenberg but it's too unknown but Aachen is just a catjump away so i picked this for location Smile

i draw from time to time too i dont let this get rotten such as my 3d modeling with blender but i want to keep straight to music . i like singing , i like putting my ideas and feelings in auditive works . music and art are both poreful tools to express feelings.

you played violin ? thats so damn cool but i guess its a pretty hard instrument to learn so it's quit impressive too.

btw dont be irritated by my strange thoughts sometimes ... you know what i mean when you see what i posted to your study with cat drawing ^^

Everyone has strange thoughts, just most people try to hide them for the sake of 'being normal', wich is a silly thing... I mean the point of being an individual is to be unique in your own unperfect way. (At least as long as you don't hurt anyone.) Being normal just makes you boring.

i agree i have the exact same point of view about this ^^

Beeing normal is well... as you said boring it just means that you are like everyone else.
beeing normal is censorship and well we creatives are rebells to normality ( that sounds like a frickin cool punk rock band name xD )

i have no specific genre i do the one which i think fits the most to the content ^^  i allmost like every kind of music but currently i would say it would be some sort of goth-rock a little bit like ASP if you know that band.

Sounds good! I haven't head of them (I barely know any german bands), but looked them up on youtube, and they aren't really my style. Not that I have a specific genre I like, I have no idea on what factors my brain decides if it likes an artist or not...

I like the content of the band. very metaphorical in a way the hearer can just listen to , but the once who want the critical point of view they can filter it out and enjoy the depth of content.
For example , when you listen to the song Märchenland you will figure out that it is about politics.

I like content with a deep meanings (sadly it's hard to find bands which do this away from the mainstream " i love you " , " i have the biggest nuts" , "party hard" and such stuff... (I'm not saying that these contents aren't good im just saying that the critical contents have much more weight for me.))

Come on, there are plenty artists that have lyrics with a deeper meaning:) My personal favourite is ManuChao, although you have to know spanish to understand his lyrics. (And english and sometimes french.) PinkFloyd is also amazing. Or BlissNEso. Or other, more popular ones like Pink, SOAD or RHCP for example. I'm just brainstorming, but conclusion is, that if you look a bit around there are many good artists with good lyrics, you just have to be open to different genres Smile

Although I personally also really like when the lyrics are tales, like Nightwish, Ensiferum, Alestorm, Sabbaton, etc. Or BuenaVistaSocialClub, to mention a different genre Very Happy

I nearly forgot the most important - music without lyrics, where you can create the meaning behind it. My alltime favourite for this is TwoStepsFromHell. It's the best for drawing, or long bus rides, or anything where you don't want to pay attention to the music, just feel it ^^

good old nightwish yes ... but todays nightwish has become really standard partying stuff with not that deep meaning anymore ... but the old one with tarja ... that was good. Alestorm is definetly partying stuff. funny but no deep meaning at all but the sound is nice yeah i have to agree there.
Pink and deep meaning ? i don't know a single song of her which is deep in the meaning and not just the common commercial stuff. For ManuChao i can only say that i can speak a broken version of spanish but i cannot speak french . BlissNeso , BuenaVistaSocialClub,Ensiferum and TwoStepsFromHell do not say anything to me ... i will look that up .

Well i always care about content... content is what matters for me . I usually do not care if something just sounds nice ... it has to fit .

Bands i listen to often are :

german once :
ASP ( you said you like tales... you might should listen to their album krabat then)
Welle:Erdball

international once :
infected mushroom (i love the song "becoming insane" (some lines are spanish there too btw. ) )
Mindless selfindulgence ( they have a crazy way to sing about issues )
Crow's Claw (very nice instrumental metal )
Emilie Autumn ( i love this fusion of modern elements and violine (and yeah i could mention Lindsey Stirling here which is really a great artist too but not every song of here gets my attention just a handful to be certain ))
Celldweller ( the one and only band i listen too which does not have a deep meaning but a very nice sound )

And i have a lot of good old Classic i listen too ( i dont mention the artists here cause i do not think that it is of any interest )

once=einmal, the word you're looking for is ones ^^

But to the topic: You're right about Nightwish, I only listen to the old ones. Most of Pink is commercial, but Family portrait, Stupid girls, F*cking perfect and some others are different (in my opinion). On terms of BuenaVistaSocialClub I advise you to look up the lyrics, becouse they are from cuba, and I can barely understand a word even though I speak good spanish Razz It doesen't has any deep meaning, but they tell nice stories.
I haven't listened to InfectedMushrooms in months, but I really like them Very Happy I don't know any of the others, I'll look them up.

Most of TwoStepsFromHell-s music is made with a symphony orchestra, so classics aren't as far as you think Smile I just saw CarminaBurana live on monday, it was amazing, its's such a powerful music.

To me it's more important for the music to sound good, than to have a good content. I listen to many artists I don't even understand (some metal bands or Zaz for eg.). But if it makes me feel good I like it. Also that's the reason why I listen to so many different genres, because the music has to be in balance with my mood, and that's always changing.

I was thinking about any german bands I listen to, but he only ones I remembered were Rammstein (a few years ago), and JointVenture - we had the cd 'Dinger' from them at home, and I listened to it a lot when I was young. But I just realised now that Russkaja and Rotfront are also kind of german, and I really like them Smile (I think multilinguality is an amazing thing, that's why I love to learn languages.)

damn it ... typo .. i was half asleep when i typed that XD

well in my opinion mostly everyone can do good sounding music.
When i listen to music the content has to symbiose with the instrument of course.
Listen to music is kind of like reading a book. A book can have good sentence structure (which would be equal to sounding nice in refer to music) but the core of it is the content .

I wonder if people who just want the music to sound nice do not care if the content is about something which they really dislike. scratch

(You made that "typo" three times in two different posts, that's why I pointed it out)

I don't always care about the content. For example when I want to relax, I don't want my music to be about how f*cked up the world is. Of course, if I understand the lyrics and don't agree with them, I wont listen to the music because it will bother me. But if it's just silly, without any deep meaning, I don't care as long as it sounds good. I mean I won't stop listening to CarminaBurana just because the lyrics are about "the pleasures and perils of drinking, gluttony, gambling and lust"(by wiki). As long as it sounds as amazing as it does, I don't really care.

That's interesting. In my experience it motivates me to do more stuff, to feel better about myself. So in some sense it's a useful thing, although it's also really bad.
You know what helps in my opinion? If you make a mistake, and feel bad about yourself, try imagining that one of your friends made the same mistake. Would you say that person is stupid for making that mistake? If not, than why would you say that about yourself?
It's not a straight up solution, but it can help sometimes Smile
