I'll just copy+paste the message on the fb page. It kinda got buried and i doubt anyone saw it:

Hey homem8s, I wanna get feedback on smth that I just finished today. It's a metal-style cover of a crappy bulgarian pop song (https://youtu.be/JtFfmDUDCco is the original if you're interested). Since i'm not the best at mixing and mastering, I'd like to know if some of you musical folks can find anything which I could change to get it sounding the best it can. Personally, I think I've got the feel of the song down and all of the parts and instruments can be heard. Since I doubt any of you know bulgarian, you should be more focussed on how everything sounds than the lyrics.
My version is on https://soundcloud.com/dante-kishishev/otivame-na-kupon-metal-cover/s-VcjLi
Mainly, I'm curious about the vocals, since i haven't really mastered any kinda vocals so far. I tracked the screams twice, and eq'd one track for the lower end and one for the higher end, which is why some parts may be slightly out of sync.
It's still on private because I'm not sure if I'm going to change it or if this is the final version, but so far everyone who i've shown liked it. I might make a video for it before the end of the summer, which is why I want to make sure it sounds as good as possible. Thanks anyway

So yeah, i know these things are mostly subjective, but i dunno. I think i should re-record the first verse since it sounds slightly off, but other than that, what do you guys think? too much compression, too much reverb, anything that you notice is off? And yes, this isn't supposed to be groundbreaking or technical, but I enjoyed making it and it took me quite a while.

This is really good. I think you've pretty much nailed it, with the exception that the rhythm guitar and the drums need to be a little higher in the mix, and a little clearer (they kind of blend together and it's hard to make out the detail). The vocals could maybe come down just s tad, but that's my personal taste really. All in all, good work!

The tones are good, the levels need to be reworked.
I'm also a guitar player trying to be a mixing engineer, lol so I've been in the same position of putting my guitars ridiculously loud haha.

Remember... it's best practice to turn loud things down, not turn quiet things up. You can fix the overall level in the master.

I pretty much agree with what the other guys said.
and maybe you should use a bit less distortion, to avoid as much squeaking when you move your fingers?

Well, i gave the guitars a little more high end, i fattened up the drums, and re-recorded some of the guitar parts for less squeakage. Might be over-compressed a little, but fk it at least it's loud Very Happy as a whole I'm happy with it now, thanks for suggestions Very Happy

Your worries are far from mastering mate. Your guitars are pretty good, your drums and bass on the other hand need quite a bit of work. Might want to check into FortioI's live drum mixing tutorial (even if you dont use live drums) and his tone tutorial for bass with his Pod HD Pro.
That should help you a lot.
Cheers!

Drums have a weird stereo image. Guitars have a nice tone, but you should take a look at the mix again and try to get a proper balance.

Take some mid range and low end out of the guitars, take a way whatever weird stereo imaging you have on the drums (Or master bus).

Focus on gain staging everything first, then work on eq, and add compression last. After you've done those, you can work on sweetening everything with an eq or parallel compression afterwards.

Phat sounding drums dont necessarily mean widening them. Its got a lot to do with balance, eq and compression. Might be best to just start over at this point. (not writing but mixdown)

This new version is much better, IMO. Everything sounds a lot clearer and more well-defined. I don't know much about all the technical aspects some of the chaps here are talking about, so I can't comment on that, but to me it sounds excellent. If anything I would prefer the rhythm guitar to come up even more in the mix, but that is just my personal taste as I prefer rhythm to lead anyway :p
Good work homeslice!

To be honest I just added some sausage fattener to the bass and snare to compress em more (maybe not the best choice but i like it), dunno what stereo imaging you're talking about but i'll check it out. I personally like the way they sound on my mix, especially with headphones, i guess i can hear the wideness but I didn't do anything on purpose. I think it sounds sweet, but to each their own. I used some floor monitors to mix most of it, so i didn't notice it. I might look into fixing it when i'm making the vid, but maybe not.
I may have compressed everything too much, as I made groups for all guitars, compressed/limited and whatnot..did the same for vocals and then for the master track... I stiill end up using T-rack master presets, is that wrong? Very Happy Also, I'm not good at knowing what to EQ, most things sound good to me almost all the time.
I tend to get lost with all the plugins because I'm still learning and I end up going back to things and changing them then forgetting about them.
The bass kinda sucks because I used a guitar and some pitch shift pedal or smth in amplitube, and it doesn't work too well. I don't own a bass currently and I don't know many people that do (and those that i know have it in E standard, a looong way from G# (Could do it on the higher G# but that would be the same octave as guitars and I don't really see the point of it.) I tried to make it unnoticable, and it's only there to give a little bit of depth to the mix.
I'll still check out the tutorials though. Not sure how much i'll change, but i'll do my best.
It's not really a serious track to be honest, I mean i'm not sure how many actually copy+pastad the youtube link above ( https://youtu.be/JtFfmDUDCco if you don't want to look for it)
But thanks for taking the time to comment and give feedback, much appreciated Smile

By stereo image, I just mean general panning (and wideness too).

Listen to other tracks you like as a reference, that really helps!

Since you are starting out learning how to mix, Only limit (see what i did there lol) yourself to Balance, EQ, Reverb, and Panning. You'll be surprised how much you can accomplish with those things.

Also, check this website out! http://www.independentrecording.net/irn/resources/freqchart/main_display.htm

Holy crap that link seems awesome.
Is wideness a bad thinig to have? I haven't done much with the panning, I've just double tracked the guitars but everything else is centre. I might have panned the drums slightly in EZdrummer, but I like that effect.

Depends on the genre. If i'm bored enough I could try and mix it for you and give you a good idea for reference.

Usually with wideness, you want it to still sound natural. Like say you are trying the haas effect, and it sounds all phasey and weird. Or in your case, not natural. Double tracking guitars is fine (gives a much wider stereo image).

But you just need to decide where each instrument is going to sit in the mix, and put it there. With drums, i generally dont do any crazy panning.
